Aerial Photographs Collection

Aerial photographs of South Perth

The City of South Perth’s aerial photograph collection commenced in 1929, when the municipality commissioned the newly formed Air Surveys Ltd. to make an aerial photograph of the district. It was completed in 1930 and was one of the first such photographs in the state.

In 1948 the municipality again commissioned an aerial montage, and the collection has grown decade by decade since then, with full aerial photographs captured in the following years: 1930, 1948, 1959, 1969, 1978, 1988 and 1999.

In 2013, the City had the opportunity to digitise these aerial photographs and they are now available for viewing online. For full searching, mapping and exporting functionalities, view the maps using the City's online mapping system, IntraMaps.

Seven of the original prints are stored in a custom-built Jarrah map cabinet at Heritage House Cultural Centre in South Perth. These are now available for viewing on Sundays, with the kind assistance of the City of South Perth Historical Society.
